We were understandably nervous about trying that again. We take the kids all over the wilderness in their baby backpacks, but come bedtime, we are all warm and snug in our beds at home. But California winters are much, much milder than Colorado ones, so in late January Ryan wanted to try another overnighter with Jer.
We found a cute creekside campsite just half an hour from home (in case Ryan needed to abort mid-night). Chloe and I joined the boys for fire roasted hot dogs and smores before heading back home and leaving the boys to brave the night alone.
Jeremy did pretty well. He had fun hanging out in the tent with daddy before bed and get this, watching Veggie Tales on Ryan's iPhone. During the night Jer did wake up a couple of times after having wiggled out of his sleeping bag and getting cold, but with a quick retuck, he would fall back asleep.

Before coming home, the boys drove to a couple of lakes to explore and throw rocks.
